Kinesiology

Progressive Kinesiology is an excellent and accurate method of finding out what is preventing you from feeling better, and ascertaining how to give your body the optimum environment so healing can take place.

It is a holistic system of natural health care using non-invasive techniques to identify and correct imbalances. All conditions can be helped with Kinesiology because it works at all levels according to what the body needs at the time of treatment.

The principles of Kinesiology were originally developed in the 1960s by Dr. George Goodheart. He found that he achieved better results for his patients using muscle testing than traditional methods. He went on to discover the connection between muscles and meridians, developing techniques to correct muscle weakness through meridian balancing.

John Thie took Kinesiology to the layperson with the Touch for Health Synthesis. There are now several modalities of Kinesiology recognised by the Kinesiology Federation, including Progressive Kinesiology.

“Developed in the 1990s by a group of Kinesiologists with experience in several modalities, Progressive Kinesiology employs a wide range of techniques to test and correct imbalances. It allows the practitioner a deep level of communication with the body to determine the fundamental cause of symptoms” E Hughes 2007

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is an energy healing technique performed by qualified practitioners, which channels universal life energy to clients. This energy is transmitted by a light touch - a gentle placing of hands in specific positions on the body. Reiki is used for mental, emotional, physical or spiritual balancing and well-being and can produce profound effects over a short space of time.

Reiki is from the Japanese words rei (boundless and universal) and ki (vital life force energy that flows through all living beings). This energy (known as prana, chi or ki) travels through energy centres and pathways in the body. Disruptions in this energy flow adversely affect your mind, body and spirit, eventually leading to illness. Reiki works to improve and re-balance the harmonious flow of energy.

In the Western world, people are just beginning to realize how crucial this ki is to good health, though Far Eastern cultures have understood its importance for thousands of years.

Any problem involving mind, body or sprit can benefit from this healing technique. When your energy is flowing at its optimum, not only do you feel good but you look bright and happy and others can sense this.

Reiki practitioners often don’t know exactly how the technique works. Explanations vary from describing it as a response to vibrations - to a rise in energy levels in consciousness.

Evidence and testimonies support the benefits of Reiki. Sometimes it works as a cure; sometimes it simply relieves pain. It must be noted that Reiki does not necessarily replace medical aid: a broken leg needs to be set; heart attacks, strokes, etc, need hospitalisation. However, in these instances, it can be of great help in supporting recovery. Reiki compliments all other forms of therapy and medicine by supporting the body’s natural healing process. It has been found to have beneficial results for those living with long term conditions. Reiki produces results with the following symptoms and many more:

•Stress, tension, anxiety, fear

•Low spirits, depression , emotional turmoil, feelings of being unable to cope

•Insomnia

•Low energy levels

•Sports injuries

•Long-term pain

•General ailments

Even when pain or turmoil has been experienced and unresolved over a length of years, beneficial changes can be felt after 3 or 4 treatments at weekly intervals. A client may feel a definite positive effect for a day or two after the first treatment and then this tends to dissipate. However, this usually returns after further treatments and the beneficial effects become more pronounced and last longer

FAQ Reiki

From where does Reiki originate?

The Reiki healing method is based on ancient Tibetan knowledge rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese theologian. He studied ancient teachings on healing which eventually enabled him to heal and to pass on this gift to others.

Does it depend on my beliefs?

No. It is not related to the beliefs of the recipients or the therapist. Reiki is not the same as faith or spiritual healing and works equally well on plants and animals – neither of which are known for their belief systems.

What happens in a Reiki session?

Receiving a healing session is wonderful for stress reduction and balance. Reiki is a quiet, relaxing and comforting experience.

You remain fully clothed throughout the treatment, whilst the practitioner places her hands gently in specific positions either on, or just above, the body.

The experience can range from feeling more calm or peaceful to feeling full of energy, or both. Your body will automatically draw in as much Reiki as it needs, using it in whatever way is most appropriate at the time.

Your treatment will be enhanced if you can take it easy for a while afterwards and drink plenty of water to help your body detoxify.

How often do I need to have a treatment?

Although just one Reiki session can be highly beneficial, it is generally more effective to start with about 3 treatments lasting from half an hour to an hour each. A treatment plan can be discussed and reviewed as necessary according to your requirements and preferences.

Can I learn Reiki?

Yes. Anyone can learn how to give Reiki healing. It is also very simple and easy to learn. You need to start with Reiki Level I and progress, if you wish, from there. Level I can be learnt in a weekend and is used to help heal yourself and your friends and family. I particularly recommend learning Level I for those with long term conditions. Level II is the practitioner’s degree and Level III and IV are Master / Teacher degrees. Please contact me for further details
